Film Competition Focuses
on Young New Zealanders
Young New Zealanders are being
encouraged to give filmmaking a go as part of the Inspiring
Stories Film Competition themed “Young Kiwis making a
difference”.
With a first prize of $1000, the
competition is expecting hundreds of entries from around the
country. Films must be under 8-minutes in length and be
entered before 31st of July at 6pm.
Now open for
submissions, the competition is an initiative of Inspiring
Stories, a charitable trust established to showcase and
celebrate young people making a difference. Founder Guy Ryan
explains the vision behind the competition.
“Imagine
if every young New Zealander unleashed their potential to
change the world. Imagine if the stories of those young
Kiwis could inspire others – peers, communities nationwide
and beyond.”
"Whether it’s kick-starting the
community garden, cleaning up the local beach, or tackling
extreme poverty – there are heaps of young Kiwis out there
leading change The challenge is how engaging can you make a
film about them.” says Ryan.
The New Zealand
Federation Against Copyright Theft has partnered with the
Inspiring Stories Trust to contribute a first prize of
$1,000 dollars to be awarded to the winner.
The
Managing Director of NZFACT, Tony Eaton says, “NZFACT is
delighted to be partnering with the NZ Film Commission in
the Inspiring Stories Film Competition, supporting some of
New Zealand’s most talented filmmakers at the early stages
of their career. We wish all of the entrants and their
creative teams well on the production of their short films,
and look forward to seeing their ideas and hard work up
there on the big screen come competition time.”
The
competition follows on from the Inspiring Stories national
road trip, where the team have run events in more than 25
centres nationwide including workshops in secondary schools
and community film screening evenings. The project is
proudly supported by the New Zealand Film
Commission.
