Ricky Threlfo presents:
The Medicine
A new dosage of weekly comedy
Ricky Threlfo is the man behind Wellington’s newest weekly comedy night, The Medicine, 8pm at Meow on Wednesdays.
Ricky only started doing stand up ten months ago and made the Wellington Raw Comedy Quest Final back in April. He performed in the 2012 Comedy Festival in Sweat Meats but since then, stage time has been hard to come by.
“There’s only one regular stand up night in Wellington currently and about sixty performers, all vying for limited stage time. That’s why we’ve started The Medicine. It gives more opportunity to comedians and to refine their material in a new environment,” says Ricky.
Live comedy has never been as popular in New Zealand and there is a demand from audiences and performers alike and at just $5, The Medicine is the cheapest stand up comedy night in Wellington. So far, Notable performers include a Billy T Winner Jarrod Baker (Mrs Peacock), Billy T Nominee James Nokise, and the last two Wellington Raw Comedy Quest winners Sam Smith and Roni Saul. The show also features a number of rookie comedians with their more polished material.
“It’s a great mixture, I think,” says Rick. “It’s not all about how much experience you’ve had. We’ve had some guys who have only had four or five gigs but you wouldn’t know it - their material is really funny. For us, ‘The Medicine’ is about giving our talented comedians more stage time.”
The show is approximately two hours long and features up to eight acts a night, with the headline act performing twenty minutes.
