Laugh-a-minute abdominal workout for Comedy Gala goers

The cream of New Zealand’s comedic talent gave Queenstown a good abdominal workout at the Oaks Hotels & Resorts Comedy Gala at the Queenstown Memorial Hall last night.

Host Brendhan Lovegrove warmed up the sell-out crowd before the all-star line-up including Wilson Dixon, Urzila Carlson, Rhys Mathewson, Simon McKinney and New Zealand’s lord of laughs Jeremy Elwood.

“It was great to see a sell-out crowd last night and they definitely got what they came for – everyone was in fine form and the audiences had a ball,” Festival Director Simon Green said.

The Comedy Gala kicked off a huge line-up of funny acts scheduled for the 2012 festival.

“We have more comedy on the Festival programme than ever before this year with the Comedy Gala, 7 Days Live and Flight of the Conchords. All three events are sellouts and reflect demand from the local community and visitors who have indicated they are keen to enjoy a funny night out,’’ Mr Green said.

The festival continues today on Coronet Peak with the R&R Sport Skin to the Summit at 7am and the rescheduled Mophie Mountain Bikes on Snow from 11am. Meanwhile, the American Express Jazz Brunch kicks off at 11.30am at the Hilton’s Wakatipu Grill before the action gets underway in central Queenstown with the MoreFM Day on the Bay starting at midday and rescheduled MoreFM Birdman at 2pm.
