Silent
Night – one woman’s tour-de-force – AOTNZ tour 15 –
31 July
It’s Christmas Day, and Irene McMunn is
throwing a party. As she prepares, she regales us with
stories from her past – the Tangiwai disaster and the
effects that had on her family, her courtship and marriage
to the late Len, and her relationship with her
daughter.
Silent Night is a poignant portrayal of a senior life lived solo, delicately unfolding a world where all is not as it seems. Written and acted by Yvette Parsons, the play is inspired partly by her childhood experiences in the rest home run by her parents.
Arts On Tour NZ is proud to
tour Silent Night throughout the country, a play that has
previously attracted critical acclaim – last year it was a
hit at both the Nelson and Tauranga Arts Festival – and
gasps of laughter and recognition from appreciative
audiences wherever it has been
performed.
