NZTRIO: LOFT SERIES - LIGHTBOX

Celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, and a very bright, albeit busy future, the renowned NZTrio – Justine Cormack, Ashley Brown and Sarah Watkins - continue their sell out Loft Series with their second concert, Lightbox, taking place on July 22nd at Auckland’s Q Theatre Loft.

Part of the three-concert Loft Series, the trio will transport audiences to sunny Spanish climes with Enrique Granados, to neighbouring Australia with Nigel Westlake, and then delve into the romantic, bohemian world of Antonin Dvořák.

Perhaps the highlight of the performance, however, is the world premiere of award-winning, New Zealand composer Karlo Margetic’s new work Lightbox – hallowed so much that NZTrio have named their entire performance from this work.

Celebrated for their unique, genre busting and (above all else) accessible take on classical music, the trio continue to smash preconceptions of chamber music being unapproachable and irrelevant; performing edgy and exciting works matched with classical masterpieces and injecting one of music’s most versatile genres with their own particular sense of fun, vitality and passion.

Their commitment to New Zealand music, by engaging audiences from all walks of life both locally and internationally, has been heralded both commercially and critically. Such as been their undertaking to the genre that the NZTrio has recently been acknowledged by the Composers Association of New Zealand with the CANZ/KBB Music citations for services to New Zealand music.

The Loft Series concludes later in the year with Dumky on 28th October but before that they will be on stage with the New Zealand Dance Company in their launch season ‘Language of Living’ in August, premiering a triple concerto with the Vector Wellington Orchestra in September before leaving for an international tour to China and Taiwan.
