FLY MY PRETTIES A DAY ON THE GREEN CAST
MEMBERS:
Barnaby
Weir
Over the last year, Barnaby Weir has been
anything but idle. As leader and co-founder of the Pretties
concept, he toured the country with the collective in late
2011, recording the album IV along the way. As the front man
of well-known outfit The Black Seeds, he’s recorded and
co-produced the band’s latest album Dust And Dirt,
and followed the album’s release with a humongous national
and international tour…phew!
Jarney
Murphy
Much loved musical backbone of The Black
Seeds, Jarney Murphy, has been bringing the heat and keeping
the beat with the group for almost a decade. Renowned for
his boundless energy and solid sense of timing, Jarney was
welcomed into the Fly My Pretties fold for The Return
Of… tour and has been playing the drums for the
collective ever since.
Mike
Fabulous
A man of many guises; Mike Fabulous is
the guitarist for The Black Seeds, a prolific bassist, DJ,
producer, reoccurring cast member of Fly My Pretties…and
an all around cool cat. Ridiculously, on top of contributing
to Fly My Pretties’ IV and The Seeds’ Dust And
Dirt, Mike Fab has released and toured two of his own
albums in the last couple of years. Melodies was an
Ethio-Jazz / Latin Boogie offering under the guise of
“Lord Echo” and Unlimited Buffet, saw the
brilliant and unexpected pairing of himself with Lawrence
Arabia.
Age
Pryor
Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer
and cast member of Fly My Pretties’ Live At Bats,
The Return Of… and IV, Age Pryor is
considered by many to be the ultimate quiet achiever. During
his career, Age has released three acclaimed albums under
his own name, contributed to a raft of other albums and
projects through collaborations, and has crafted music for
soundtracks including Taika Waititi’s Eagle Versus
Shark. Incredibly prolific, he also is a founding member
and regularly plays with The Wellington International
Ukulele Orchestra and The Woolshed Sessions.
Adi Dick
Noted singer, songwriter,
guitarist, beat maker, producer and DJ, Adi Dick, joined Fly
My Pretties for the Return Of… incarnation in 2005.
Since then, he’s attended the acclaimed Red Bull Music
Academy, released the much talked about solo album Our
Place plus a series of underground gems including a
recent EP titled Spacedust. Excitingly, his return
will no doubt hail the return of a few classic Pretties’
tracks to the set list!
Anna
Coddington
Back home after an extensive
three-month writing excursion in Europe, the enigmatic and
charming songstress, Anna Coddington returns to the flock
sprightlier than ever. Enchanting many with her impressive
musical talents and onstage banter, the singer, guitarist
and drummer has released and toured two solo albums,
performed as part of Eru Dangerspiel and been recognised for
her song writing as a 2011 Silver Scroll nominee.
LA Mitchell
With a reputation for
her polished live act and spectacular voice, pop/soul
songstress L.A. Mitchell is one in demand musician. As a
solo artist she’s released two self-produced albums,
collaborated on two EPs with electronic producers Isaac
Aesili and D:UNK, and opened for legends including Stevie
Wonder and Lionel Richie. Alongside her impressive solo
career, L.A. keeps busy touring with AHoriBuzz and Sola
Rosa, and is a member of Dukes and Dave Dobbyn’s band. As
a member of Dukes, L.A. has opened for rock legends Blondie
and the Pretenders and had a Top 10, Gold Certified hit.
Lisa Tomlins
When it comes to
music, Miss Tomlins’ reputation pretty much always
precedes her. Performing with everyone from Shapeshifter and
Fat Freddy’s Drop through to Twinset, Ebb, Opensouls and
Hollie Smith, Lisa’s powerful, honeyed voice has made her
one of the most versatile performers in the country. A cast
member from the A Story tour, the veritable
‘gun-for-hire’ is back to add her distinctive touch and
unmistakable voice to the FMP mix.
Mara
TK
Through his work alongside acclaimed Kiwi
future soul trio, Electric Wire Hustle, the golden voiced,
world-wandering citizen, Mara TK has proven himself to be a
singular force for modern music. Fluent in voice, guitar,
bass and beat machines, outside of his aforementioned band,
Mara TK has been blessed to both work in the studio with and
perform next to Ommas Keith, Muhsinah, Jake One and is
counted as an esteemed Red Bull Music Academy alumni. In the
process of which, Mara has forged an artistically
idiosyncratic (and highly in-demand) reputation within –
but not limited to - the worlds of future soul and modern
beats.
Nigel Patterson
Nigel
Patterson is a Wellington-based pianist, organist, composer
and the keyboardist for The Black Seeds. He first joined Fly
My Pretties for the A Story tour and returned for
their recent outing - the IV tour. Nigel is a
purveyor of vintage instruments and has a contemporary
all-original composition jazz quartet under his own name. He
is also the bandleader of The Mantarays - a noir exotica
organ-fuelled psychedelic group, which hovers somewhere
between Sun Ra and The Doors.
Ryan
Prebble
After a month residency in Bali with his
band The Nudge, acclaimed singer and guitarist, Ryan
Prebble, makes a welcome return to Fly My Pretties. Armed
with a distinctive gravelly voice, which goes inexplicably
from a bewitching moan to a rugged growl, Ryan has
prolifically recorded and released acclaimed music under his
own name, via collaborations and as a part of bands
Spartacus R and The Nudge.
Amiria Grenell
Hailing from
the iconic Grenell tribe, youngest member Amiria is a highly
regarded singer-songwriter whose honest and innocent charm
has captivated audiences. After releasing and touring her
acclaimed sophomore album Three Feathers in 2011, she
made her Fly My Pretties debut, joining the collective for
the IV tour. Since then, Grenell has been recognised
for her prodigious musical talents and awarded a Tui for
“Best Folk Album”.
Iraia
Whakamoe
Putting in the hard yards playing drums
for Wellington psychedelic blues trio, The Nudge, Iraia has
earned a healthy reputation for laying down a solid base of
certifiably savage, tribal rhythms. Jumping on board for the
Fly My Pretties IV tour, Iraia set to work impressing
many with his innate ability to keep a beat and penchant to
bust a move. Since releasing their debut EP, Big Nudge
Pie, Iraia and his band mates have played a slew of
top-notch shows including a recent residency at Bali’s
legendary, Potato Head Beach Club.
Ria
Hall
Though joining the Fly My Pretties’ ranks
for the first time, it’s unlikely that Ria Hall will be a
stranger to fans. In late 2011 she not only released her
acclaimed self-titled EP but also delivered an inspired
performance during the Rugby Wold Cup, which was witnessed
by a televised audience of millions. Having performed with
Hollie Smith, Eru Dangerspiel and provided backing vocals
for the 2010 reunion shows of the iconic Trinity Roots; Ria
Hall has proven herself as a true talent and one to
definitely be watched.
