Wellyfest – the best way to spend Labour Weekend
Wellyfest – the best way to spend Labour Weekend
Wellyfest is lining up to be another fabulous Labour Weekend with a terrific range of international and NZ guest performances. There’s something for almost every taste in music.
From the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Whitetop Mountaineers bring their own mix of Appalachian style, from Australia The Wheeze and Suck band perform a principally English style in four part harmony and encourage audience participation and revelry, Martin Pearson provides comedy and effortless vocal performances, Women in Docs bring a little bit of Dixie Chicks, and Lil' Ian Goodsman brings old style acoustic blues.
From NZ, Mamas got the Blues deliver classic blues jazz keeping alive the tradition of women blues singers. Supersheep sing trad folk and the Gazebo Girls bring their unique blend of alt-country and Kiwi harmonies. La Petite Manouche collaborate to produce superb gypsy jazz mixed with folk, classical and more. And Wososi bring the delight that only an acapella choir can provide.
There’s a new second stage this year (its programme still a surprise) so festival goers will be spoilt for choice. There’s also plenty of spaces to just hang out and jam with guests and local musicians. We’ll enjoy concerts, guest workshops, dance workshops, the Saturday ceilidh and a one off Sunday afternoon concert from special visitors Spooky Men’s Chorale. From the welcome shindig on Friday night to the final jam festival goers will be well entertained. There’s a complete programme to keep the kids busy and even start them learning to play a new musical instrument.
The festival takes place at Brookfields, Moores Valley , Wainioumata on Labour weekend starting Friday 19 October so you can enjoy a relaxing weekend of fun and laughter and music and camp in beautiful surroundings. All the concerts are under cover and you can attend for one day, an evening or the whole weekend – everyone is welcome, but do bring your wellies!
Discounted earlybird registrations close on 30 September so book now at www.wellingtonfolkfestival.com
