Pye makes a solid start to Mountain debut
4th October, 2012
Triple Eight Race Engineering's Scott Pye got his first taste of the iconic Mount Panorama Circuit today, finishing the Dunlop Series practice sessions eighth overall.
In the opening 45minute session Pye focused on familiarising himself with the 6.2km track before setting his fastest time of the session on his tenth lap.
Pye found more confidence in the second session, shaving almost two seconds off his best time to finish eighth in today’s final session with a time of 2:09.9939.
"Today has been a massive learning curve for me having never been to the Mountain before. It is definitely not the easiest place to conquer,” Pye said.
“Throughout the day, and as my confidence grew, I found more time and improved to get my lap times into the 2min.9's
“We still haven’t run green tyres yet to I am feeling confident that there’s plenty more to come,” Pye concluded.
In between the two Dunlop Series practice sessions, Pye jumped into the Team iSelect Commodore for the co-driver practice session, finishing 20th.
Pye will begin Friday’s on-track activities with Qualifying at 8.35am (AEST) followed by Race 1 of the Dunlop Series at 1.20pm.
