Movember 2012: Knowledge Is Power

Throughout the nation, upper lips are a-twitching in anticipation…the time for Moustache growth is almost upon us!

Those maestros of moustache at Movember are busily putting plans into action for another Mo-mentous campaign that will see both hair and money raised for men’s health around the globe.

In 2011, New Zealand raised a whopping $1.4 million for men’s health awareness and research with an impressive 13,141 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas doing their part in New Zealand alone.

Funds raised throughout Movember in 2011 have boosted programs that focus on creating awareness and understanding of cancer and men’s mental health; run through the Cancer Society of New Zealand and the Mental Health Foundation. Further details can be found by visiting http://nz.movember.com/about/.

The New Zealand Movember team continues to work with partners throughout the year to ensure funding gets to the programs that count.

“We continue to have a collaborative relationship with our partners,” says Movember Country Manager Robert Dunne. “We work together on opportunities to develop world-class research and survivorship strategies in line with long-term strategic goals” he said.

“Funds from the 2011 campaign have gone towards essential existing programs in addition to a range of some fantastic new initiatives.

“We look forward to continuing to share details with the community of their funds in action” said Robert.

Over the past two years, Movember has paid homage to the Modern Gentleman and Country Gentleman, exploring his appreciation and penchant for luxury items, etiquette, craftsmanship, pride and honour.

In 2012, its time to get down to the raw hard truths of the past two years and take a look, quite simply, at what it means to be a better man.

2012 is the year of Movember & Sons.

This Movember, we’re encouraging all Kiwi men to both seek and share knowledge and wisdom with loved ones, to learn their family health history and predispositions and to understand the risks they possibly face. These simple actions can have a significant impact of the quality and longevity of a man’s journey through his life.

Participation is integral to Movember successfully continuing its journey and this is where we hope you will join in. Knowledge is power; the time to learn and grow is now.
