Traditionally Untraditional! Auckland Fringe 2013

Media Release – October 24th 2012
For immediate release

TRADITIONALLY UNTRADITIONAL!
AUCKLAND FRINGE 2013: 15 FEBRUARY – 10 MARCH 2013

With 2013 drawing nearer, the non-curated, open access world of Auckland Fringe once again returns for its third instalment – and has grown into a bigger monster since its 2011 instalment.
All the artists have now signed up so get ready for another creative explosion next February – featuring joystick orchestras, boy bands, Antarctic song cycles, cross dressing history celebrities and stories about dogs, Nazi’s and curry.

Fringe 2013 now boasts 115 events across over 40 different venues Auckland wide. From the Parnell Baths and the Ponsonby Baptist Church to a tiny pop-up theatre and a fale’ on K’rd - Auckland Fringe is the leader in democratic super city arts events.

A number of these venues aren’t just one offs for the 2013 season either – they’re existing hives, swollen into “hubs”, and immersing their local arts communities and audiences in the Fringe. Mangere Arts Centre, TAPAC, The Pumphouse, Basement, St Kevins Arcade, Q, Aotea centre to name a few.

2013 has also seen an increase in artists touring nationally and internationally to participate in Auckland Fringe. Many adding Wellington and Dunedin Fringe to their tour as well. A new partnership with Melbourne Fringe saw the “Auckland Fringe Tiki Tour Ready” award presented at Melbourne’s award ceremony; to Cannonball, by Emily Taylor. This award will be reciprocated when Melbourne Fringe selects an Auckland Fringe artist to present in Melbourne next year.
