Dad floats to $55,000 Isuzu ute win

Dad floats to $55,000 Isuzu ute win

A 42 year old orchard manager used his daughters rubber dingy to help outwit thousands of other hunters and win a brand new ute valued at $55,000.

Jason Yuill, from Whakatane, won the ute after following a month-long online hunt by Isuzu to launch the new D-MAX ute in New Zealand.

“I knew from the clues that had been released that there was a swamp to negotiate so I decided to bring my daughters little dinghy. It wasn’t pretty but it did the trick,” Yuill said.

Yuill had travelled from the Bay of Plenty with his father-in-law to look for the ute which was hidden on a rural property north-west of Auckland.

The hunt, which attracted as many as 25,000 entries nationwide, came down to a sprint finish despite the remote location said Yuill.

“I had a good idea of where the D-MAX was but I could hear other hunters all around me looking too. When I saw it I just ran for it. I beat another guy literally by just a few seconds. It was pretty lucky to be honest,” Yuill said.

He said it was a risk to take time off work and travel so far for the hunt but was glad that he’d done so.

A new ute hidden in the South island had also been won.

Yuill said he hunted recreationally and found the map reading and outdoor skills particularly helpful in following the online clues as they were released.

“I’ve been thinking about buying a new ute so this is perfect timing. I’m pretty bloody happy to be honest,” he said.
