The Race That Stops TWO Nations – the Melbourne Cup
Melbourne Cup 2012
The Race That Stops TWO Nations – the Melbourne Cup – will be run this Tuesday at 5pm NZT.
The first Tuesday in November is the big day on the Australasian racing calendar and this year’s 152nd running of the Great Race will again see tens of thousands of Kiwis bailing out from the office early to settle in at pubs, clubs and TABs around the country with the goal of picking a winner.
Will one of our Kiwi-bred chances grab a share of the NZ$7.8 million in prizemoney? Or will a highly-fancied European raider make off with the spoils?
Can Cambridge’s favourite son – gun Kiwi jockey James McDonald, racing in his first Melbourne Cup – guide Fiorente to one of sport’s ultimate prizes?
All will be revealed in a little over three minutes this Tuesday.
The final field of 24 starters will be confirmed on Saturday evening, with a huge range of betting options available at the TAB nationwide in-store, at pubs and clubs and online at tab.co.nz.
Attached is the TAB’s “bluffer’s guide” to this year’s Melbourne Cup, featuring Cup trivia, a betting guide and an explanation of all the racing jargon to help you sound – and bet – like an expert.
Happy punting!
