Two Golden Shears
champions sharing in a World Record moment, the setting of a
four-stand lambshearing record for eight hours on Tuesday,
February 5, 2013, at Centre Hill, northwest of Mossburn,
Northern Southland.
The two have known each other more than 30 years, during which Kirkpatrick has won the Golden Shears Open shearing title four times, and Goss has won the Golden Shears Open woolhandling title once.
It was only natural that Kirkpatrick would call on one of his mentors to help-out as he and fellow shearers James Mack, of Weber in Southern Hawke's Bay, and Southlanders Leon Samuels, of Invercargill, and Eru Weeds, of Ohai, set out for their big day. They shore 2556 to claim the record which nhad no previous holder, with Kirkpatrick shearing 650, Samuels 648, Mack 643 and Weeds 615.
