Munro Wants More Of The Same
After taking his first overall round win in the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship at Hampton Downs last weekend Christchurch driver James Munro is keen for a similar result at Manfeild Park in Feilding this weekend.
The 16-year-old moved to second in the championship point standings at Hampton Downs with victory in two of the three races.
"It would be good to have another round like Hampton Downs. That would put us right up there with (championship leader) Brendon Leitch and make it an exciting decider at Taupo next month. It will be a tough race to the finish though and the first three rounds have shown that anything can happen. Tom Alexander has had a couple of non finishes and Michael Collins got hit and finished last in one race at Hampton Downs. The same could happen to anyone of us. I will put my head down and keep doing my best."
While he does not have a great deal of experience at Manfeild, scene of this weekends penultimate round, James has at least driven a Formula First car there as part of the circuit's Winter Series. "I enjoy the track and it will be good going back in a faster car than the Formula First. I will make use of practice to get used to the extra speed of the Formula Ford there. However one thing that I have realised after Hamtpon Downs last weekend is that it doesn't take me too long to learn a circuit."
The Manfeild round of the Formula Ford
Championship is a support category to the country's most
prestigious domestic race, the New Zealand Grand Prix.
