A New Season of Conversations

A New Season of Conversations: The Constitutional Conversation

Face Television opens its 2013 season of "In Conversation with Noel Cheer" with a matter that goes to the heart of the nation.

Unlike most other countries, New Zealand does not have a law called “The Constitution.” Instead, the rules for how the country is governed are in what is often called an “unwritten constitution”. Most of it is in fact written down in various laws, rules, and practices – its just not in a single document. And it evolves by what has been called “pragmatic evolution”. Sounds very Kiwi, doesn’t it? As part of their coalition agreement following the 2008 General Election , the National and the Māori parties signed up to undertake a review of the situation, in exchange for a confidence-and-supply agreement. We are part-way through that process called “The Constitution Conversation”.

This week's guest is one of the 12 members of the Constitutional Advisory Panel, Emeritus Professor Ranginui Walker.

In Conversation with Noel Cheer, Face Television, Monday March 4th at 7:00pm, repeated on Tuesday March 5th at 12 noon.
