Dominant Finish In 2013 NZSBK Championship Finale

In complete contrast to the previous weekend at Hampton Downs – the fifth and final round of the 2013 New Zealand Superbike Championship poured on a beautiful autumn’s day for race fans, at the Taupo Ricoh Motorsport Park, New Zealand.
The Victoria Motorcycle club had the day running like a well-oiled machine, everything ran as per clock-work, with the atmosphere electric with anticipation.

Qualifying on Saturday showed at least 5 strong competitors, all within one second of each other.
Race day was sure to be “on fire”.
Starting the day 4th in series points, the pressure was on Sloan “Choppa” Frost to reel in some strong results and claw back much needed points.

In race one Sloan “Choppa” Frost dominated the start, heading into turn one and led for a few laps in a fierce battle, finally finishing in fourth with an exciting four changes in lead, the race taken by Craig Shirriffs, who has been right back on race-pace this season.

The series Results after Race One:

Robbie Bugden 171
Craig Shirriffs 155
Dennis Charlett 134
Nick Cole 116
Sloan Frost 114

In Race Two, the pace was again, furious – with Sloan charging and taking the lead ahead of the Australian series Title holder, Robbie Bugden – Turn 6, at Taupo’s Ricoh Motorsport Park.
In a nail-biter Sloan convincingly held off the pack, until the chequered flag came down!

“Unfortunately the series didn’t start out too well but, I’ve been on podium for the last three rounds, if it wasn’t for setbacks in the earlier rounds – we would’ve certainly challenged the Top 3, we were so close!”

“This season everyone has really upped their game. The level of quality riders racing in New Zealand now, made for a very unpredictable outcome, right down to the wire and it made for great racing.”
