New Zealand, Australian And Samoan Churches And Community Groups Unite For One Week To Serve Their Communities
SERVOLUTION: 7-Day Event Serving Local Communities
An army of volunteers will take to the streets and neighbourhoods of Auckland from April 19 to 25, putting "love thy neighbour" into action. It is part of a worldwide movement called SERVOLUTION, geared towards serving local communities.
Volunteers from churches and community groups will be painting out graffiti, picking up rubbish, checking residents have smoke alarms, providing school makeovers, and cleaning parks and reserves, among other acts of kindness.
Servolution started in South Auckland five years ago by LifeChurch Manurewa in an effort to give Manurewa a facelift. Today over 70 churches and community groups from New Zealand, Australia and Samoa will come together to serve their local communities through simple acts of kindness.
"The motivation of Servolution is to give to the community, showing love in action, and expecting nothing in return," says lead organiser, Liz Muliaga.
"Servolution is a culture, not an event - we're really looking forward to getting to know our communities better and creating a culture of serving others."
