Ross Aims for Round Win at V8 Final

After his successful round win in Taupo last month where he also took home the much sought after Jason Richards Memorial Tropy Nick Ross has his hopes pinned on taking yet another round win this weekend when the NZV8s wrap up their season at Pukekohe for the ITM 400.

"We are trailing by just a few points in the championship so if we have another good weekend we could be bringing home another trophy." said Ross.

The huge field of nearly 30 NZV8s will join the Australian V8 Supercars this weekend in being the first to compete on the new look Pukekohe circuit after the addition of three new corners to the layout.

As the circuit celebrates it's 50 year anniversary by welcoming back the New Zealand round of the Supercars it has also received upgrades to barriers, rumble strips, pits and viewing areas all completed in time for this weekend's big event.

Nick Ross and the large field of NZV8s will be expected to put on quite a show with 29 competitors for their fifth and final round of a championship which started in January and made it's way from the world's most southern circuit at Teretonga Park Invercargill through Timaru, Feilding and Taupo to a final battle just outside of Auckland city.

"I'm really looking forward to this weekend and getting back into our new car which has been so good to drive this season. It would be nice to get my hands on the championship trophy and put it alongside Jason's one." said Ross.

With 225 points available from the three NZV8 races this weekend there is every possibility of making this a reality but it rests heavily on Jason Bargwanna's performance who currently leads the NZV8 TLX series.

"Even if we have another good weekend 'Bargs' would just need to be close behind in all three races to keep hold of the lead but we will give it all we have." said Ross.

The NZV8s have just the one 20 minute practice session before a 20 minute qualifying session so there will be a lot of pressure on the field to get on the pace with the new layout of the circuit where a series of three corners have been added to what has up to now been a long and very fast back straight.

"We have been doing well all season with getting the car set up to be quick straight off the trailer so we are hoping we can do the same this weekend and get a headstart on the others." said Ross.

The massive field of NZV8s competing this weekend includes five of the New Generation TLX cars of which Nick Ross drives one of two new Holden race cars.

His Total Lubricants Holden Commodore will also be joined by two Toyota Camrys and a Ford Falcon in the brand new multiple brand TLX class plus 24 cars from the original Ford versus Holden TL class all competing as one aggressive and rumbling field of high powered V8s.

The opening race of the NZV8s is on Saturday 13th April with two more on Sunday to determine the winners of this season's TLX and TL championships.
