The Northern Gem – Exclusive Golf Tournament
The success of the now well established Queenstown based Southern Gem Golf Tournament has inspired Event Director Stephen Jensen of PGQ Golf to expand into the North Island for the first time, focusing on the exclusive Cape Kidnappers, The Kinloch Club and Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary.
The luxury Northern Gem Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 6-11 2014 and based on the success of its southern counterpart is expected to attract a strong response from golfers throughout Australasia.
The Southern Gem is now in its third year and the 72-player December 2013 tournament is already a sell-out.
“There has been tremendous support for this tournament which plays Michael Hill’s private course, The Hills, Jacks Point and Millbrook Resort,” says Jensen. “There is a strong word of mouth recommendation and there are many loyal supporters returning for a second and even third time.”
Jensen has been involved in the golf industry for 15 years and has gained a reputation for his professionalism as a golf tour organiser, during the past six years, under the umbrella of PGQ Golf.
“I have been eyeing the North Island for some time and am pleased to be able to offer this new tournament to the market. It is the first of its kind available and provides an exclusive opportunity for both men and women to play in a tournament format at leading North island courses.”
Cape Kidnappers is listed in the top 30 golf courses in the world and in 2012 was named Best Overseas Golf Resort in the Luxury Travel Magazine’s Gold List. The Kinloch Club , a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course is ranked 76th in the top 100 courses outside the US, while Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary is a highly rated New Zealand course attracting players from all over the world.
Superior accommodation is provided at the Hilton Lake Taupo along with luxury coach transfers to Cape Kidnappers. A welcome BBQ and formal dinner is prepared by Master Chef Simon Gault’s Hilton based restaurant.
Jensen says the Northern Gem tournament is aimed at discerning golfers who want to experience a quality product in one of New Zealand’s most appealing regions.
“I am excited about the opportunity to offer this tournament to existing and new clients and look forward to introducing them to three quite unique international golf courses.”
