Bred, raised, sold and previously trained in New Zealand, Sacred Falls (O’Reilly x Iguazu's Girl, by Redoute’s Choice) downed Australia’s champion colt Pierro and fellow NZ bred and Karaka graduate Norzita (Thorn Park), winning by three-quarters-of-a-length for trainer Chris Waller.

“It was a very good performance,” said his previous co-trainer Tony Pike. “He was an exceptional performer in New Zealand and he has managed to produce that form across the Tasman.”

Iffraaj 3YOs Claim NZB Filly Series Double

With five fillies racing for the NZB Southern Filly of the Year title in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed NZB Warstep Stakes (2000m) at Riccarton, it was If I Can I Can who raced to the Series victory, claiming a rare Filly Series double for her young sire Iffraaj.

With the three Series leaders all tied on seven points coming into Saturday’s race, If I Can I Can needed to win the race and see last start winner Kisses run out of the placings in order to take the outright Series victory.

With the result falling in If I Can I Can’s camp, the filly secured the Southern Filly of the Year title for her sire Iffraaj who also sired the NZB Filly of the Year Series winner Fix. Only Tights, who stood at Haunui Farm, the current NZ base for Iffraaj, and Three Legs have managed to sire the winner of both Series in 1994/95 and 1983/84 respectively.

It was memorable day for Shuka and his trainers Peter & Dawn Williams who made a successful return to their old base in Riccarton to win the $100,000 Group 3 Coca-Cola Canterbury Gold Cup (2000m) on Saturday.

Now trained at Byerley Park in Karaka, Shuka produced a dominant performance in the Gold Cup under inform jockey Mark Du Plessis, striding away in the straight to win by an easy 7.5 lengths.

“He’s a big horse that just needed some time to mature,” said co-trainer Peter Williams. “We will spell him now and hopefully he can take another step up in the spring where he will likely go back for the Group 2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile.”
