Star Studded Judging Panel For Edible Fashion Awards

Another Star Studded Judging Panel For the Hastings Pak’nsave Edible Fashion Awards Announced!

The 2013 Hastings PAK ‘n SAVE Edible Fashion Awards announce an impressive line-up of celebrity Judges for the June 1st Awards.

The Line-up includes Fiona Smith - Deputy Food Editor of Cuisine Magazine, After 7 years in Europe, Fiona returned to New Zealand to live and is very pleased to be Deputy Food Editor of Cuisine Magazine. She is the head judge of the Cuisine Artisan Awards and a judge in the Cuisine Restaurant of the Year Awards, as well as the NZ Cheese Awards. In 2007 and 2011 Fiona won the Award for Food Styling at the Guild of Food Writers Culinary Quills. In 2009 Fiona won best Magazine Travel feature at the Cathay Pacific Travel Media Awards and is the author of several cookbooks. Andrea Taaffe - Event Director & Production Manager for the Edible Fashion Awards said “With career highlights and credentials such as these we are delighted to have Fiona on board, adding again complete credibility to this event’. Fiona herself when asked to judge was thrilled “I am delighted to be involved in this year’s Edible Fashion awards. I've judged cheese, restaurants, artisan and everyday foods before, but the fusion of food & fashion is new for me”.

Alix Bushnell, perhaps more recognizable as Britta from last season’s TVNZ Series Go Girls is also on board this year. Alix was plucked from New Zealand’s National Drama School, Toi Whakaari and selected for the role of Britta back in series one and two of Go Girls. Since then, Alix had a major role in the New Zealand feature film, Matariki, directed by Michael Bennett. She shot the film between production on series one and two of Go Girls. The role earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film at the 2011 Aotearoa Film and Television Awards (AFTAs). She also appeared in the New Zealand drama series, This is Not My Life and has featured in several television commercials. Andrea Taaffe ‘Alix is a great addition to the judging panel and adds a wonderful energy and individuality to the judging panel.

Alix herself was delighted to be asked ‘Having spent several years in Hawkes Bay, I cannot wait to see the creative inspiration behind what I have no doubt will be fabulous designs”.

Last but by no means least, we are extremely happy to have Sarah Nelson - WOW designer from Napier to complete the judging panel. Over the past 15 years she has submitted entries into the Fibre & Fleece, Hokonui & WOW Awards, where some of her creations have been selected for the show, nominated as finalists & much to her delight held as exhibition or stage show pieces. During this time The World of Wearable Arts show moved to Wellington allowing her the wonderful opportunity to become involved as a backstage volunteer in the WOW wardrobe & merchandising teams.

This year Sarah is once again immersed in another WOW creation for the Children’s Section - “Reinterpret the Tutu” Sarah says ‘I am thrilled to be invited as a judge at the Edible Fashion Awards and I can’t wait to see what wonderful creations will be conceived by the designers- Good Luck to them all!Mercia Paymens, commended in the Kiwi Icons section of WOW in 2012 and competing in this year’s Edible Fashion Awards commented ‘I am impressed to see the high calibre of the judges who each bring a unique skill set to the difficult task of judging this event. Obtaining the right mix of judges, with creative flair, industry knowledge and experience is vital to the continued success of the Awards’.
