Time to showcase up and coming film legends

Inspiring Stories Film Competition is gaining momentum, and this year it’s going to leave one filmmaker with some cash in their pocket, a post-production internship notch on their belt and a little bit of good karma.

7 May 2013 – Now in its third year, the Inspiring Stories Film Competition celebrates young New Zealanders making a difference. The 2013 Supreme Award winner will receive $2,000 and a two-day post-production internship with one of New Zealand’s largest post-production companies, Images and Sound.

“As Kiwis we pride ourselves on ingenuity, on thinking big and getting on with it. There’s loads of young people pouring their heart and soul into film making and making the world a better place, the competition really aims to celebrate that” says Guy Ryan, CEO of Inspiring Stories Trust.

Last year’s winning film, Continuity Error by James Pryor of Whangarei focused on the conservation efforts of his younger brother. The film was one of thirty entries received across nine regions throughout New Zealand.

Supporter Tony Eaton, Managing Director of NZFACT, says: “The New Zealand film and TV industry is world-class.

“It has more than 22,000 highly skilled and creative workers that exemplify the quality of story-telling for which the industry is recognised internationally. And this is why NZFACT is passionate about playing a supporting role to help encourage up-and-coming film makers.

Grant Baker, Managing Partner of Images and Sound said: “Keeping a finger on the pulse in terms of up and coming talent is important to our business. We love seeing the variety of fresh perspectives that the next generation of film makers can bring to the table.

“Providing the internship prize is our way of giving something back to an industry that we’re incredibly proud of, and passionate about,” he said.

The competition challenges filmmakers to enter up to a 4-minute film around the theme. Entries close July 31. Previous winners can be viewed via the website – www.inspiringstories.org.nz.
