Popular Blues Cruise features headline acts at the Rotorua Blues Festival
Queen’s Birthday Weekend and the Blues are becoming synonymous, with the return of the Rotorua Blues Festival (Wed. 29 May to Mon. 3 June).
The two afternoon Blues Cruises on Sat. 1 & Sun. 2 June are major attractions that will sell out quickly. Each cruise features two of the festival’s headline acts on-board the Mississippi style paddleboat ‘Lakeland Queen’.
Saturday’s show features Jimi Hocking (AUS), world traveled superb guitarist and mandolin player, and The Mike Garner Band featuring Neil Billington (NZ). Mike is a highly-regarded interpreter of the blues, and Neil is recognised as on of NZ’s top exponents of the harmonica, both chromatic & diatonic.
Sunday’s show features Lil’ Ian Goodman (UK), virtuoso acoustic slide guitarist with his pre-war blues style, and Laura Collins & the Back Porch Blues Band (NZ). Laura has toured previously as ‘Mojo Mama’, sings in a soulful style. She is backed by top musicians including Wayne Mason (The Fourmyula, Rockinghorse, The Warratahs) on keyboards.
Modelled on the Mississippi river boats and the charm of yesteryear, the Lakeland Queen offers stunning 360 vistas of beautiful Lake Rotorua. Take in the spectacular scenery and cruise past Rotorua’s very own wildlife sanctuary while partying to the blues of the festival headline acts. Drinks and snacks are available on board.
Two different, but top quality shows. Early booking is recommended as these shows sell out fast. Tickets just $35 from www.eventfinder.co.nz or at the Lakeland Queen office in Rotorua.
