Script to Screen announces 2013 FilmUp Mentorship Programme Recipients

Script to Screen is excited to announce the eight filmmakers who have won a place in the inaugural FilmUp Mentorship Programme. The initiative is the first of its kind in New Zealand and gives writers, directors and producers who have already demonstrated considerable talent and tenacity, the chance to learn from some of the best in the business.

Selectors were tasked with choosing eight participants out of more than 70 applications. Those selected will spend the next six months working with their chosen mentors to hone their craft, creative process, and careers. The mentors for 2013 include crime novelist, Spooks lead writer and creator of Luther, Neil Cross, internationally acclaimed Bad Boy Bubby and Ten Canoes writer/director Rolf de Heer and Australian/NZ producer of over twenty feature films Tim White.

The 2013 recipients and mentors are:

Producer Ruth Korver with producer Vicky Pope
Director Zoe McIntosh with director/acting coach Brita McVeigh
Writer Paul Stanley-Ward with writer Neil Cross
Producer Chelsea Winstanley with producer Tim White

The panel of industry selectors were amazed at the calibre of the applications. They worked to choose a range of filmmakers in terms of discipline, experience and style. Selector and Mt Zion writer/director Tearepa Kahi said, "The selection process was a fierce contest, waged with talent, originality and personal commitment to craft. The eventual winners were chosen because of their strength, clarity of vision and identity and I have no doubt that a worthy contribution to the screen stories of our future will be made by the recipients on this list."

The FilmUp Mentorship Programme was established in 2013 with financial assistance from the New Zealand Film Commission.

Script to Screen is a charitable trust with the mandate to develop the craft and culture of storytelling for the screen in Aotearoa New Zealand.
