Clothing NZ Children in Poverty
Clothing NZ Children in Poverty
Over 270,000 Kiwi children live in poverty. They can often go without basic human needs such as adequate clothing and Care Share Wear (CSW) works every day to address this very real problem. Now they need help from the community to continue with this vital work.
CSW gives our kids the chance to help other children less fortunate than themselves by donating their surplus to needs, good quality clothing that the CSW team collects, sorts and redistributes to children in need. Beba McLean, General Manager at CSW Wellington says,
‘Through the donation of a mini wardrobe’s worth of clothing to children who have been identified as in need, we hope to ease the financial pressures on families who are finding it difficult to make ends meet.’
The CSW initiative has
three main benefits/objectives:
- To help children and
their families by providing them with good quality clothing,
to assist in maintaining good physical and mental wellbeing
which can potentially have a positive impact on a child’s
ability to learn.
- To educate children about sharing,
having empathy for others and about the wider community in
which they live, which in turn builds stronger
communities.
- To reduce waste and to reuse what
resources we have potentially reducing the amount of waste
going into landfill.
Care Share Wear Wellington operates through the generous support of volunteers who donate their time and various skills to the project. Whilst the operational costs are very low, CSW does require some funding to cover necessities such as rent, petrol vouchers for collections and deliveries, stationary, cornstarch bags for packing. CSW Wellington is a registered charity and has set up a ‘Give a Little’ account run through the Telecom Foundation and kindly requests that if people would like to support the continuation of their good work that they donate to them through there:
