Set-up underway for Wellington LUX

International artists are receiving a bracing welcome to the capital as they arrive for the Wellington LUX festival. Artists from South Korea, Germany, Mexico, Australia and the UK, as well as New Zealand, will spend the next few days setting up their outdoor interactive works for the festival.

The lights will go on for Wellington LUX this Friday June 21, and run through to June 24. Most events are free. Bring your own hat, coat and scarf!

Urban Alive: illuminated artworks
Taking a walk around the central city, people will be able to interact with 18 artworks. They will discover intriguing installations along the Wellington waterfront from Te Papa to the Museum of City and Sea, and in some inner city back lanes. As an example, Frank Kitts Park will be transformed by the interactive Lit Tree, from South Korea; the mesmerising Digital Wattle, from Australia; and Social Firefly, from Mexico, where robotic lights respond to each other in eerily human fashion.

Where: Wellington waterfront from Te Papa to the Museum of City and Sea, and in some inner city back lanes.

Chalk the walk
Go crazy with glow-in-the-dark chalk; UV canons and glowsticks (for kids) will light up your creative efforts.
