for David Tua.
Monte Barrett is the only man on Planet Boxing who has been in the ring with both the Tuamanator and his August 31 opponent Alexander Ustinov.
The American, known as ‘Two Gunz’, fought Ustinov - who stands at a towering 6ft’ 8in” (203cm) and who has won 28 of his 29 professional boxing bouts - in 2009.
They fought for the then vacant WBA International Heavyweight title – a bout Barrett lost in a decision having survived 12 rounds with the giant Belarusian.
A year later he fought Tua in the first of two meetings.
The first, in Atlantic City, was a controversial draw before Barrett handed Tua his only defeat on New Zealand soil when he got the judges’ nod after going 12 rounds in Auckland in 2011.
Matheson Sports Media reached out to Barrett to give his verdict on the fight.
