Prayer Vigil for Nelson
Mandela
A daily prayer service for Nelson
Mandela will begin this evening at Holy Trinity Cathedral,
Parnell, from 7pm - 9pm.
The services are a response to a request from the wider South African community in Auckland city to have place to come and pray together as Nelson Mandela remains in a critical condition.
The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Rev’d Jo Kelly-Moore says all are welcome to attend the services, “It is a privilege to be able to provide a sacred space for people to gather who watch from afar during a significant time for South Africa and the worldwide community.”
The Archbishop of the New Zealand Dioceses, the Most Rev’d Philip Richardson, will attend the vigil this evening to represent the prayers and support of the Provincial Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
The services will consist of periods of silence as well as readings at regular intervals with place for personal and community prayer. People are free to come and go from the Cathedral during the evening. Readings and prayers will be said every half hour from 7pm to 9pm.
