FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We are thrilled to announce Linda MacIntyre's debut exhibition here at the Walrus Gallery in Wellington. Corner of Taranaki & Jessie Streets.
'A Flight of Fancy or a Serious Plight'
Feathered Masters is an
exhibition by Christchurch based artist Linda MacIntyre.
MacIntyre was born and raised here in Wellington where
she studied Graphic Design and begun her Graphic
career.
Later when travelling the world she worked as an
Art Director or Graphic Designer in Advertising Agencies &
Design Groups. After her travels abroad MacIntyre decided
to settle in Christchurch with her husband to bring up her
two daughters.
Over the past few years many galleries in
Christchurch have suffered, driving Christchurch based
artists away, searching further a field for a place to
present their work.
"With our City here in disarray,
people are still trying to get their lives back on track &
spending money on art works is not a particular priority for
them and so I started approaching galleries in
Wellington."
After having survived the impact of the
2011 Christchurch earthquakes. MacIntyre has now focused her
efforts on sharing with the public, other New Zealanders
plights.
This exhibition has been named Feathered
Masters and is about MacIntyre's interest and
awareness of the plight of our wild bird life here in New
Zealand.
"I feel strongly about fighting &
protecting the last refuges that are struggling to survive
here. By depicting them in their own environment, be it in
treetops, hidden away on the forest floor or in isolated
inhospitable valleys, by attempting to capture each little
vital personality on canvas, I hope to attract attention to
a unique part of world biodiversity right here in
Aotearoa. I can only wish that my "Feathered Masters"
will speak for themselves! Seen as a series of 12 pictures,
the classic masters' portraits take on a new look, relating
to a modern, Kiwi attitude. I believe our unique New
Zealand bird life rates with the best anywhere on the planet
- that they are “masters in their own right!”
With this Exhibition MacIntyre is reaching out to
fellow New Zealanders, to urge them to look again at our
birds, reconsider their unique personalities and even have a
smile or two at how they can relate to old masters'
portraits & their personal characteristics. After all we all
share similarities with our feathered friends of the forest!
With “Feathered Masters” MacIntyre has
created a quirky, different look at matching our unique New
Zealand bird personalities, with iconic old masters'
portraits.
There will be 12 oil paintings
each 51cm x 71cm.
Prices $1,200
each
