Performing arts at Alberton

August 21

MEDIA RELEASE

Performing arts at Alberton

Two very different examples of the performing arts will take place at Alberton, the NZ Historic Places Trust property in Mt Albert at the end of the month.

Drama students from Mt Albert Grammar School will perform scenes based on the lives of the Kerr Taylor family – the original inhabitants of Alberton – who lived in the house for over a century. The two-hour performance will run from 10.45am through to 12.45pm on August 30.

“The students will perform a series of dramas in different rooms within Alberton itself – so the audience will not only enjoy a series of mini-plays performed by some tremendously talented young actors, they’ll also be able to enjoy seeing through the house as well during the performances,” says the Manager of Alberton, Rendell McIntosh.

“Alberton celebrates its 150th anniversary this year – and so the dramas will provide a great way for people to connect with some of the personalities and stories that are part of the history of this house.”

People are welcome to come and watch the performances though a small donation would be appreciated. Rendell is also asking that people register their interest before the performance in order to manage numbers.

Meanwhile on September 1 at 2.30pm, the Starlight String Quartet and friends will perform some favourite Mozart selections including excerpts from The Magic Flute performed by guest flautist Jean Ham.

“What better way to mark the first day of spring than to enjoy a concert of wonderful music performed by seasoned professionals in one of the most beautiful heritage venues in Auckland,” says Rendell.

“Previous concerts performed by the Starlight String Quartet at Alberton have been sell-out events, so people need to book ahead.”

Concert-goers will be able to enjoy the music as well as afternoon tea for a cost of $20 per person, though numbers are limited and bookings are essential – email alberton@historic.org.nz or Ph 846-7367.
