Based here in Christchurch, Shocking Pink is a registered charity dedicated to specifically support young women in New Zealand through breast cancer. With 370 young women newly diagnosed each year, they exist to help this often under-represented group connect with each other and offer grants and support services to help them, their carers and families through their journey.
Run entirely by volunteers, Shocking Pink works hard to keep overheads extremely low. This means that all fundraising dollars from this event, as well as generous donations, go towards grass roots programmes that make a real difference to the lives of young women living with breast cancer.
About the founders
Kylie Richardson was
aged just 27 and Cheryle Robins 34 when they were both
diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010., Finding a lack of
support and resources specific to young women with breast
cancer, they co-founded the Shocking Pink Charitable Trust
in 2011 to create something positive from their situation.
As well as providing resources at their website
www.shockingpink.org.nz their Trust has already provided
personal guidance and support to over 100 young women
throughout NZ and further afield.
