Opera in a Days Bay Garden announces new Mozart opera for December

Rhona Fraser, producer of Opera in a Days Bay Garden has announced her summer season opera for 2013.
There are performances at 6pm on Sunday 8th, Tuesday 10th, Thursday 12th and Friday 13th December.
A cast of twelve singers and a professional chamber orchestra of sixteen players, led by Anne Loeser, will all come together in the idyllic setting of the garden of Canna House, Days Bay to present a new Mozart opera L’OCA DEL CAIRO .
Acclaimed director Sara Brodie, will direct this Mozart premiere, which has been edited and reconstructed by conductor and musical director, Michael Vinten, from a score written by Mozart but never performed in his lifetime.
This comic opera with no less than four pairs of lovers, tells of the perils and thrills of ambitious older suitors, besotted young couples and determined estranged wives. The opera will be sung in English so that the humour and passion of the chase, will be shared by all.
Opera in a Days Bay Garden has been rightly named Wellington’s own Glyndebourne - style opera experience, with a strong audience following from those that want to see opera in a new and intimate way. Performances start at 6pm and patrons may wish to make the journey by East by West ferry, there is a one hour picnic interval between 7pm and 8pm, to relax in the garden enjoying your supper, before watching the second act with the dusk and the darkness.
This is a truly unique occasion in the Wellington arts calendar. There are no artistic compromises, singers and orchestra alike are professionals who wish to enjoy this perfect performance opportunity.
Canna House was the 2006 winner of the NZ Home of the
Year award,
designed by Hugh Tennant and the terraces
were designed by distinguished landscape designer, Megan
Wraight. The garden has a sheltered position and a natural
acoustic assisted by the surrounding hillsides of native
Beech forest. The garden is home to many wonderful native
and introduced plants and all
performances are joined by
kereru,
grey warbler, tui, bellbird and finally
morepork.
The garden seats just 200 patrons and performances always sell out before the first night.
