Family Legacy Continued by Women's Pairs Finalist

A second round upset in post-section of the women's pairs at The Trusts New Zealand Open 2013 this morning has given the daughter of multiple national title holder Neville Hill (Avondale) a chance to continue the family legacy of bowls success.

Kirsty Hill and skip Aggie Motu (Pt Chevalier) made a break for the finals circle in the round of 16 with a dominating 15-5 victory over defending champions Anne Bateman (skip) and Nancy Jujnovich, before taking down another favoured pair (Marilyn McLeod and Elaine McClintock) in the quarterfinals.

A close win in the semifinals versus Gayle Melrose (skip) and Frances Knight (Composite), 13-10, was all the duo needed to make the final.

Motu and Hill will face Val Mathews (skip) and Dolly Welch (Thames Coast) in the final on Thursday, November 14, 11:30am at Henderson Bowls in Auckland.

Another multiple national title holder, Jamie Hill (Avondale) is Kirsty's brother.

For the defending champions in the men's triples it was an equally unsuccessful day at the office as they met the same fate as their contemporaries in the women's pairs, this time in their first round of post-section. Murray Mathieson (skip), John McConnell and John Sakey (Defending Champions) were beaten 11-8 by their rivals in last year's semifinals, Frank Arnerich (skip), Scott Curren and David Eades (Orewa).

Arnerich's trio won through to the quarterfinals before losing to Mark Watt (skip), Garry Banks and Peter Orgias (Composite), who will face another composite side of David Hood (skip), Cedric Campbell and Barry Allison in the semifinals tomorrow.

The 2011 men's singles winner, Neil Fisher, skipped a class Browns Bay side (John Walker and Colin Rogan) to secure the other semifinals berth opposite Ciaran MacElvanna (skip) Ricky Cosgrave and Joe Whitelaw from Onehunga.

Post-section of the women's triples will be played tomorrow from 8am at Henderson Bowls in Auckland. The men's triples and pairs semifinals and singles quarter and semifinals will also be played from 10:30am tomorrow.
