YOUNG HELLIONS

Best Witchcraft is Geometry

Taking it's cue from an Emily Dickinson poem of the same name and awash with despondency, “Best Witchcraft is Geometry” marks the return of songwriter Maeve Munro to the MUZAI fold, with it's release a gracious “pay-what-you-want” through Bandcamp from November 21st.

It feels almost like an eternity since the former Bengal Light/Cat Venom member has put music out; confining herself in her Grey Lynn abode with rudimentary recording gear but a gift for penning a catchy hook (and equally as intriguing lyrics), her nom de plume Young Hellions marks a symbolic shift away from the somewhat minimalist approach of her earlier goth-pop works.

Cited by Undertheradar.co.nz as “drenched in in reverb[and] lifted by some great melody and soaring guitar”, Young Hellions is the pensive side of Munro's songwriting – venturing into the darker side of the musical spectrum once more, this time however there is a rich cacophony to her works. Otherworldly at parts and pushing her writing further than previously, her eponymous debut EP, due out December 2013, very much is a more informed and focused Munro.
