Andrea Hlavackova
Organisers of the New Zealand Festival of Tennis are excited to confirm two wildcards for the ASB Classic, to join one of the best full field line ups in the history of the tournament. The 2014 ASB Classic will welcome backJulia Goerges (GER), who was 2013’s second seed, and the Czech Republic’s, Andrea Hlaváčková.
2013 marked Goerges fifth straight season in the Top 100, and also saw her reach the fourth round of the Australian Open, as well as the third rounds of the Indian Wells and Charleston tournaments.
Hlaváčková arrives in Auckland off the back of an impressive 2013 doubles season, winning the US Open in both the mixed and women’s events, the semi-finals of the French Open with Lucie Hradecká, and the Wimbledon quarter finals also with Hradecká. Andrea was also runner-up at Bad Gastein this year, while 2012 saw her bring home an Olympic silver medal, losing the final to the formidable Williams sisters.
These two wildcard players join a stellar ASB Classic line-up including seven-time Grand Slam Singles champion, Venus Williams, former world #1 and Grand Slam champion, Ana Ivanovic, New Zealand #1 Marina Erakovic, British #1 Laura Robson, and top seed, Roberta Vinci.
