New Writing by Philip McKibbin

New Writing by Philip McKibbin

Philip McKibbin is publishing a collection of writing. Te Poropiti will present his best pieces. It will include a preface by Max Harris, and photographs by Victoria Hollings.

‘The collection will be called Te Poropiti – which means ‘The Prophet’ and ‘The Prophecy’ in Māori – in reference to Te Whiti o Rongomai, the prophet of Parihaka, whose actions and words are explored in two of the pieces that will be in it,’ McKibbin says. ‘I also wanted the title to suggest that the collection says something about the future of my writing…’

The collection will contain poems, shorts stories, articles and essays. It will also include scenes from his upcoming play, Don Faust – and even a speech! It explores love, honesty, responsibility, and well-being. ‘There really is something for everybody!’ he says.

Philip McKibbin is an independent writer, based in Auckland. He holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Auckland, and is learning te reo Māori at Te Ara Poutama. He also works part-time at Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, and at the Maidment Theatre.

He is currently trying to raise $1,200 through Boosted.org.nz, a crowdfunding site, to cover the costs of producing it. Every contribution will make a difference to the project. It is easy to donate, and donations from eligible individuals qualify for a 33% tax credit.
