Registration now open for 5+ A Day School Challenge 2014
Students around the country will soon be cooking up new ideas for the 5+ A Day School Challenge.
Registration is now open for the annual Challenge which encourages healthy eating and specifically eating 5+ A Day, fresh fruit and vegetables, for health and vitality.
The Challenge is open to New Zealand Primary and Intermediate schools and asks teachers and students to hold a 5+ A Day themed event or combine the 5+ A Day message with an existing event between now and 30 November 2014. Previous events have included school picnics, dress up days and field trips.
Participating schools have the chance to win a $5,000 Bosch kitchen appliance package, Fredge prize packs and fresh fruit and vegetables.
5+ A Day General Manager, Paula Dudley, says the Challenge is always popular with schools and is a fun way to teach students the benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables each day.
“It is important to encourage children to try a wide range of fruit and vegetables at an early age to set healthy eating habits for the future,” says Paula. “Fruit and vegetables not only taste great, they provide vitamins and nutrients children need to stay healthy and to thrive in the classroom.”
Registered schools are encouraged to order the free online resources which include lesson plans, classroom activities and promotional posters.
