NZ Trio Returns for Exploration into Arts And Culture

Media Release – For Immediate Release
NZ TRIO RETURNS HOME FOR A CLASSIC EXPLORATION INTO ARTS AND CULTURE

ART³ - CITY GALLERY WELLINGTON

Beloved by both classical and contemporary audiences across both New Zealand and around the world, NZTrio return home after wowing audiences in Denmark at the Aarhus Festival and Copenhagen, with an edgy programme for Art³, playing in City Gallery Wellington’s Hancock Gallery space on October 29, 2014.

Once again these musicians affirmed their status as masters of the musical mix
– William Dart, NZ Herald

Kicking off the evening in daring fashion is Sciarrino’s Piano Trio No. 2 – described as ‘ancient whale song and crystal meteors’, it is both a meditative and jarring expedition from the subsonic to pinball-machine mania that somehow reinvents silence and the act of listening. A new world premiere follows with New Zealander Leonie Holmes’ latest work….when expectation ends, followed by John Zorn’s anguished Amour Fou which narrates the universal nature of human love, from its flirtatious inception to the madness of obsession. The evening will end in poignant affection with Schoenberg’s passionate and emotional Transfigured Night.

Art³ (art to the power of three) continues to demonstrate the sheer versatility of NZTrio; creating a multi-sensory arts experience that combines musical feeling with visual pleasure. The group respond to the ambience of visual arts spaces and the conceptual elements behind exhibited works in their programming.
