Introducing: The Cyclona Super 8s Twenty20 cricket tournament
Just in time for summer, two brand new twilight Twenty20 cricket tournaments are coming to Auckland.
To be played side by side on the North Shore and in Mt Roskill, the Cyclona Super 8s tournaments are set to get underway this month. Featuring eight, eight-a-side teams each, the tournaments will follow rules very similar to the ICC’s international Twenty20 format.
Teams will have four ‘power play’ overs at their disposal. Two bowling (where any runs conceded are halved) and two batting power plays (where all runs scored are doubled). Matches will be played using the international-style white ball. The winning team of each tournament will take home a cash prize for their efforts. Matches will be played on Monday nights (for the North Shore) between 5:45 and 7:45pm and Fridays in Auckland Central at the same times.
The North Shore tournament will be played at Freyberg Park in Browns Bay – in partnership with the East Coast Bays Cricket Club – and the Auckland central tournament will be played Keith Hay Park in Mt Roskill, in partnership with the Eden Roskill District Cricket Club. The tournaments will run six weeks before and six weeks after Christmas.
“There’s something for everyone in the Cyclona Super 8s,” says tournament founder Javeed Ali.
“You might be a seasoned cricketer who wants to try something new, a past enthusiast who wants to make that big comeback, or a newbie who’s keen to have a hit – we’d love to have you on board.
“It’ll be fast, competitive and fun. Spots are open now for teams and individuals. Please do get in touch with me if you’d like to take part,” Mr Ali says.
