Help us 'Boost' our community production

Help us 'Boost' our community production

We have launched an online ‘crowd-funding’ campaign to secure the staging of our community drama production for next year's festival, and appeal to all of our supporters to make a donation if they can. Anything from $5 to $500 will help us to bring this wonderful production to Wanaka.

We aim to raise $5,000 through Boosted, the Arts Foundation crowd funding programme. Take a look at our appeal video for more information, and please make your donation online at Boosted.

Auditions for 'Like There’s no Tomorrow' have taken place, and the cast will be mainly drawn from students from Mount Aspiring College. The script will be edited to include some of their stories and to suit lakefront bar, Gin and Raspberry where the production will be staged.

The play is set at a high school after-ball party and tackles teen drinking with depth, humour and insight. The show puts the audience at the heart of the action in the bar – over the night they get an uplifting and compelling insight into teenagers and their relationship to alcohol, to friendship and to risk-taking.

For anyone who has seen previous community productions they will know how successful these have been. Last year, Tracing Hamlet was a huge hit and this followed the success of Riverside Drive in 2011.

Festival Director Philip Tremewan appeals to all of our supporters to get involved "The Boosted concept is simple but very effective. It allows anyone, anywhere to contribute and feel part of an arts project that appeals to them. With the wonderful feedback we receive from all parts of the country after each festival, I’m confident we’ll reach our target and help inspire more people to engage with the performing arts across the Southern Lakes.”

Like There’s no Tomorrow is written by award winning playwright, Eli Kent and directed by Robin Kerr. Both are co-founders of the PlayGround Collective along with Eleanor Bishop who has also directed the play. Mr Kerr is hosting a workshop in Wanaka for cast and crew next March with rehearsals starting in April.

To date, Boosted has raised over half a million dollars for the arts in New Zealand, supporting more than 70 projects.
