Kiwi filmmakers are making their own web and TV shows

Kiwi filmmakers are making their own web and TV shows – on their terms

There are currently four, very diverse, web series (including an indie TV sitcom) seeking crowdfunding support in New Zealand. If the projects reach their funding goals the shows will be produced.
Anyone can help make these shows become a reality; it’s the democratisation of financing and of filmmaking and broadcasting; these days audiences can choose the entertainment they want to see being made by pledging funding to projects.
Check out the campaigns below – and pledge your support.

The shows currently open for funding support are:
AFK – THE WEB SERIES
AFK is a web series following the adventures of six gamers trapped inside their characters' bodies in the world of an online RPG (that’s role playing game for us non-gamers).
This web series is going to be EPIC judging by the promo videos. A pilot has been made (available only to pledgers on the campaign), but for now you can watch the other promo videos. The cast and crew are hugely experienced and skilled.
It’s fun, fresh, interesting with high production values and a stellar cast – this is a winner folks, even for non-gamers. (Move over Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings!)
The creators are looking for funding to make the web series – they’ve tried before and unbelievably didn’t hit their target. They SO deserve your support. This web series will be a must watch and put New Zealand on the map for web series – not just Hobbiton!
Director/Writer Peter Haynes says the funding will go towards the making of a six-part series, with all the cast from the pilot returning, as well as some new faces. He’s hoping to shoot in Jan / Feb and have a complete series ready around the middle of the year.
(BTW – AFK stands for Away From the Keyboard - used in online gaming, when someone is not moving they are assumed to beafk.)

LOVELY LITTLE LOSERS – a vlogseries
Lovely Little Losers is a sequel to the hugely popular Nothing Much To Do – a vlogseries based on William Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing' which has received positive (if not positively glowing) world-wide attention in the web series adaptations space amongst its Millennial audience.
Lovely Little Losers' is a vlogseries inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘Love’s Labour’s but it won’t be a direct adaptation in the way that ‘Nothing Much To Do’ was.
The creators are four young women aged between 17 and 21 who love filmmaking – and have hit the soft spot amongst their audience who are now loyal fans (the NMTD trailer has raked in nearly 50k views alone).
Lovely Little Losers has already reached its funding target – and more. But still, they deserve your support because they rock. They deserve to get paid.

B-RABBIT – an indie TV sitcom
B-Rabbit is a proposed sitcom about immigrating to New Zealand and the life you desperately tried to leave behind.
It will be shot in Nelson, using the talents of locals – a very experienced cast and crew.
B-Rabbit are looking for funding to make a pilot for their TV show – from there they’ll be approaching broadcasters and distributors for backing to make a season (and more!) for our TV screens.
Our TV screens need more refreshing, local talent – so they need your support to make this pilot happen.

A LONG WAY FROM BROADWAY – a musical webseries

A Long Way From Broadway is a short form narrative web series, telling the story of a small town New Zealand musical theatre society.
The Christchurch creators are looking for funding to make the pilot web series. Then they can take on the world – and prove to NZ on Air and potential investors that they have what it takes to produce an original musical theatre web series for the internet, in Christchurch…where they know there is a wealth of talent for this genre.
