Christmas in the Park Returns to Kawakawa Bay
Christmas in the Park Returns to Kawakawa Bay
Residents of Kawakawa Bay are relishing a return to a “Christmas in the Park” with the traditionally themed Yuletide event returning to the village green on Sunday December 21 at 7:30pm. Held previously in the Kawakawa Bay Community Hall, the organising committee have signalled a new lease of life by stepping back to an outdoor event. According to organiser Judi Cranston, “Late December is traditionally risky weather wise but the concept of a relaxing outdoor family evening event is too fantastic to miss. We still have the Hall as back up but this year we really want to give something special back to the locals with an evening in the park”.
Locals Judi Cranston and Jo MacLean have come on board to assist the Kawakawa Bay Presbyterian Church with the event and see this year’s event as a stepping stone to an annual event that features local talent and celebrates the ethos of Christmas. That local talent will be abundant this year with the Kawakawa Bay Ukulele Group front and centre supported by local band Famous Fish and local identities providing readings, carols and other items.
The evening runs from 7:30 till 9pm with live music, carols, readings and Christmas cheer. The event is free to attend but gold coin donations will be accepted and food, coffee and children’s entertainment will be available. Community groups including Fire Brigade, Residents and Ratepayers and Kindergarten will be out in force helping to run the event smoothly and collect for the events charity; Fire Brigade and First Response.
