Dan Antunovich – West Auckland Bass player on Grammy Nominated Album forging an international reputation
Currently touring the world with Grammy Award and Golden Globe winning artist Kitaro, Dan Antunovich of New Zealand is fast establishing himself as one of the world's most proficient and respected bass players This year, Dan has performed with Kitaro in Russia, Turkey, Poland, Azerbaijan, Romania, Singapore and Japan playing to full houses with Kitaro with the support of world renowned orchestras such as the St Petersburg symphony; the Moscow Symphony and the National Orchestra of Singapore. Dan features on Kitaro's latest album “Symphony Live in Istanbul” which has just been nominated for Best New Age Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
After several years performing overseas in the early 2000’s, Dan returned to NZ in his early 20’s and his talent became extremely sought after and he played in the house bands for two seasons of TVNZ's The Singing Bee, NZ's Got Talent, Maori TV's Anzac celebration concerts (2008 / 2009 / 2010), numerous “Good Morning” appearances, and the Topp Twins TV concert / DVD release with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dan has also played and recorded with a host of New Zealand’s most well known names including John Rowles, Tina Cross and the Ladykillers, Autozamm, Carl Doy, Rikki Morris, Moana Maniapoto amongst many others, and was one of the handful of kiwi’s in the recent season of Jersey Boys at the Civic in Auckland.
“Symphony Live in Istanbul” by Kitaro, featuring Dan has just been nominated for the Best New Age Album at the 2015 Grammy awards. Recorded at the Halic Congress Centre in Istanbul, Turkey, the album was released to great acclaim internationally and the supporting world tour will continue over the next couple of years.
Because of his exceptional musicianship, and his ability to adapt to a variety of musical genre's, Dan is usually the first bass player called on by artists for recording in the studio, as he brings his unique contribution by investing every performance with his own musical personality.
To complement his on stage or TV performances, Dan has taught bass at the Excel School of Performing Arts and also at New Zealand's Otago University.
From his start as a four year old fledgling musician, Dan has put in the hard work with theory and practical study, competitions, house bands ,touring and studio work and is now gaining an enviable international reputation as a musician.
