Regent Theatre: Want to know our secrets?
Want to know our secrets?
Wednesday, 4th February - With the 2015 calendar rapidly filling with an eclectic range of performing arts, the Regent Theatre is offering guided tours to coincide with Thieves’ Alley Market Day (and Valentine’s Day) on Saturday 14 February.
It is a singular opportunity to see how many metres of electrical cabling there are, to find out what the Green Room looks like, and to get a performer’s eye view of the auditorium. Tour organisers hope the tours will spark the imaginations of visitors, enticing them back to watch the shows scheduled this year with a little inside knowledge about how it all fits together backstage.
The tours take in the beautifully restored front of house, which is still one of the world’s best unspoiled examples of the heyday of the grand picture palaces of the 1920s, as well as the intriguing spaces backstage, and visitors will be treated to a range of anecdotes about the Theatre’s history and development
Regent Theatre Board Chair Alison Cunningham says, “We have done public tours from time to time since the Trust was formed 40 years ago – although the last time was when the theatre re-opened after the refurbishment. We also do the occasional private tour for organisations on request but this is a neat opportunity for the public to see behind the scenes and show their support for this beloved intuition.”
The tours, about an hour long, will commence every half hour from 10am with the last one expected to start at 2pm. The fee for the tour is $5 per person. Encounters with the Theatre’s ghosts come at no extra cost…
