5 February 2015

Issued by Momentus Public Relations Ltd

Knox Church Open Afternoon - Saturday 7 February - 1.30pm to 4.30pm

After years of planning, struggle and sheer hard work by many people, Knox Presbyterian Church in Christchurch is now ready to take its place once again in the life of its community and city post quake.

To celebrate the reopening of the church following earthquake rebuild and restoration, the public are invited to attend an Open Afternoon this Saturday 7 February from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and see first-hand the wonderful church that has been created from a clever amalgamation of the old with the new and a fine combination of great design and great workmanship.

Knox’s Minister, Rev. Dr Matthew Jack, will give three addresses (2:00pm, 3:00pm and 4:00pm) about the interior of the new church and how it serves church’s ideals. The Knox Church organist, Daniel Cooper, will present a number of musical pieces throughout the afternoon on the newly restored organ.

At 5:00pm the Alpine Presbytery Regional Deputy Moderator, Rev. Murray Talbot, will lodge a time capsule outside the church on Victoria Street, where particular thanks will be given for the support offered by the Presbyterian community.

At 5:10pm, there will be a narrative, prayer, Bible reading, a hymn and the Deputy Moderator’s blessing.

The church still needs to raise nearly $600,000 associated with the rebuild and restoration and those attending the open afternoon can assist with donations directly or via www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/knoxchurch
