Leitch Brothers Positive for Taupo

Leitch Brothers Positive for Taupo

Taupo is the next stop for competitors in the 2015 Toyota Racing Series and Invercargill brothers Damon and Brendon Leitch are both looking forward to visiting the central North Island circuit this weekend.

Damon had a horror start to this year's series after twice in the past finishing third overall against the top class international competition it attracts. However this year the older of the two brothers suffered gearbox issues at the opening two rounds costing him dearly. However he was back to his best at Hampton Downs south of Auckland last weekend. While his qualifying sessions were spoiled by more issues he raced through the field in the opening two races of the third round of the series to record a fifth and sixth place finish. His third race was spoiled when the track dried while he was running on wet tyres but Leitch had proved that when all is well with his Post Haste Couriers/Zero Fees car he is one of the fastest in the field.

He is looking forward to Taupo. "I have gone pretty well there in the past and it should be good. There are four races this weekend (normally there are only three) so I will be looking for some good points."

Younger brother Brendon is in just his second season in the series and he celebrated his first win in the international company two weekends ago when he won the Spirit Of A Nation Trophy at his home circuit, Teretonga Park. He again showed pace at Hampton Downs last weekend but had a heavy crash early in the weekend and also got caught on wet tyres in dry conditions later in the weekend.

However he too is looking forward to Taupo. "I love the track. The way the ITM/Post Haste Couriers car is set up and the way I like to drive it means I should have a good car for Taupo."

Damon is now ninth in the series and Brendon tenth.

This weekend will feature a slightly different format as after practice on Friday competitors will have a 15 minute qualifying sessionon Saturday morning followed by two fifteen lap races on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning another 15 minute qualifying session takes place followed by another 15 lap race with the final race of the weekend, the feature event, the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy Race over 20 laps.
