Record weekend of giving kicks off Orphans Aid International’s annual street appeal

A record-breaking weekend of giving in Blenheim has kicked off Orphans Aid International’s annual street appeal as volunteers around the country gear up to shake their buckets on streets nationwide between February and May.

Over 60 Blenheim volunteers, coordinated by dedicated Orphans Aid International supporters Ruby and Sharon Hunt, collected almost $4,000 over two days in January, smashing all previous street appeal records says CEO Sue Van Schreven.

“This is a fantastic start to our nationwide street appeal, which is a vital fundraiser for our organisation. Every cent collected helps a child in desperate need through our projects in Romania, Russia, India, Bhutan and Uganda.

“The conversations and awareness generated by the collectors are also incredibly valuable.”

Orphans Aid International’s Appeals and Events Manager Hilary Campbell says she is thrilled with the result in Blenheim and sincerely thanks everyone who helped and everyone who gave.

“I would also like to acknowledge the volunteers who are about to help over the next few months and appeal for more volunteers to please contact us, particularly those in the Auckland region.

“Our street appeal is a big part of our annual fundraising and helps us make up shortfalls during the year. Quite simply, we are feeding disadvantaged children because of the appeals, so please help us during this time.”
