Ticket and event details announced for TEDxQueenstown illumination event

TEDxQueenstown today (February 19 2015) announced tickets will go on sale for the highly-anticipated event at 8am Thursday March 19 2015 and cost $119, making it the first TEDx event in New Zealand for 2015.

Available via the organisation’s website www.tedxqueenstown.com orwww.eventfinda.co.nz the number of tickets will be limited to 300 to create an intimate environment while also ensuring as many people who want to can come and enjoy the experience.

TEDxQueenstown co-curator Trent Yeo said this year’s TEDxQueenstown had evolved from previous years and promised to be “an exciting opportunity to mix and mingle with like-minded people from all over New Zealand”.

“Our overall concept has advanced to more than the TEDxQueenstown event on theSunday. We know we live in one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand – if not the world – and so we wanted to encourage people from all over the country to come and visit for the weekend and enjoy our region” said Mr. Yeo.

“We’ve incorporated a networking and social function on the Friday night so people can start to meet other delegates before they come to the event on Sunday. Following in the success of other TEDx events we’ve pulled together a day of organised local activities so visitors and locals alike can hang out with each other before the main event.”

“From morning yoga to a walk up Queenstown Hill, a day trip to Milford Sound, jet boating and more, there’s something for everyone. It really makes it a great weekend away and we hope that many will come away feeling illuminated by our special town.”

Mr. Yeo also announced details of another exceptional local speaker for the TEDxQueenstown event, held Sunday April 19, which will see up to 10 speakers and performers take to the stage under the theme illumination.

Locally-based former New Yorker, Leslie Van Gelder, is one busy lady. She has lived in Glenorchy on Lake Wakatipu for seven years and is now proud to call it home.

As an archaeologist working in France, Spain, and Australia, Leslie is co-director of Aspiring Reflective Leadership, a vision and leadership facilitation group based in Glenorchy; and currently the General Manager of the new Glenorchy General Store and a communications and culture consultant to the larger Glenorchy Marketplace project.

“I'm an archaeologist who works in darkness in caves studying finger flutings -- lines people drew on the walls of caves 20,000+ years ago. I'm also someone who's been through the darkness of grief, having lost my husband who was also my best friend and research partner seven years ago.”

“I'm going to be speaking on the nature of legacy and life's work and how the darkness in the caves has illuminated my vision of seeing one's life's work as being the marriage of one's passion and the legacy of one's compassion and the ways in which together they leave an imprint in the world that can last, in the same way as handprints in the cave, for a very long time after each of us is physically gone.”

Leslie joins the other two speakers announced so far; self-proclaimed traveller, entrepreneur, and social activist Mark Balla and ‘The Sand Man’ Marcus Winter.

A total of around 10 speakers and performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
