Queenstown Winter Festival Calls for Creative Charities

The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival Calls for Creative Charities

Queenstown, New Zealand (27 February 2015) - The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival is looking for local charities and community groups to submit their creative fundraising ideas for 2015’s event, which takes place from 19-28 June.

American Express Queenstown Winter Festival Manager Lisa Buckingham says that it’s a fantastic opportunity and that she hopes to see some fun and creative ideas from some local charities.

“The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival is still a community event at heart and this is a good chance to give back to the community. Charity starts at home, so we love the ability to support local groups that do such great things for the Wakatipu Basin,” says Lisa.

For the fortieth anniversary of the Queenstown Winter Festival, local charitable group Queenstown Pure NRG (New Generation Rotary) held a Duck Race at the Auckland Airport Community Carnival and ran a beach clean-up after the popular iHeartRadio Day on the Bay.

“We not only fundraised over $10,500 in 2014 but we had a lot of fun doing so. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s a fantastic opportunity on offer for local groups like ourselves” says Sarah Law, the group’s president.

The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival welcomes applications – including suggestions for new events for the 2015 programme - from the following donation distribution groups:

• Community, culture or arts

• Education (including pre-school, kindergartens, playgroups, Kohanga Reo)

• Fire brigade, ambulance, life saving

• Health and health-related purposes

• Youth

• Sport, recreation, leisure

Applicants, or those looking for more information, should visit www.winterfestival.co.nz and apply under ‘Get involved.’
