The song " Big Norm " about Labour Prime Minister Norman Kirk was a big hit for the Wellington Duo Ebony in early 1974 reaching no 4 in the NZ charts .
Don Wilson and Stefan Brown ( Ebony ) are stiil active musicians and re-unite 31 years where it all started this Saturday 7 March on stage in the annual Upper Hutt City of Song concert at Harcourt Park . Norman Kirk died in August 1974 and the last telegram he sent was to Ebony congratulating them on their success . Kirk was succeeded by Bill Rowling as Prime Minister .
Upper Hutt claims the ' City of Song " status having produced musical heroes such as Wayne Mason who wrote the high profile "Nature " while a member of the Fourmyula . Frankie and Jon Stevens are also hometown bred .
The last winner of NZ has talent Renee Maurice is also an Upper Hutt resident and will take the stage on Saturday during the concert from 3-10 pm
